Nach dem Welterfolg von Herr Der Ringe und Der Hobbit dürfen sich Fans demnächst über eine Serie freuen. Die Serie wird auf prime Video erscheinen. Der renommierte Filmemacher Juan Antonio (J.A.) Bayona bekannt durch The Orphanage, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, The Impossible, wird bei den ersten beiden Episoden der kommenden Der Herr der Ringe Serie von Amazon Studios Regie führen. Diese basiert auf den legendären Fantasy-Romanen von J. R. R. Tolkien. Gleichzeitig ist Bayona auch als ausführender Produzent tätig, gemeinsam mit seiner Partnerin Belén Atienza.
So erfolge im Frühjahr letzten Jahres schon ein aufwändiges Castingverfahren um die begabtesten und beliebsten Nachwuchsschauspieler Hollywoods für eine außergewöhnliche Umsetzung von J.R.R. Tolkien Geschichten gewinnen zu konnten. Darunter Andy Serkis, der schon im Original die Rolle von Gollum spielte. Die Serie wird an die Spiele um Mittelerde: Mordors Schatten und Mittelerde: Schatten des Krieges angelehnt sein und auch Teile von Herr Der Ringe sowie Der Hobbit beinhalten. Der Serienstart ist für Dezember 2019 vorgesehen.
